Most Brits would rather get a good night's sleep than spend time with our families

Sleep comes before pretty much everything else, according to a new study

Ever feel like you just don’t have enough time to get things done at work, keep on top of household chores, socialise with friends and cram in some kind of exercise in too?

Of course you do. We all do. According to a new survey by YouGov and TaskRabbit, our work-life balances aren’t quite as, erm, balanced as we’d like them to be.

The study into Great Britain’s behaviours revealed that nearly three in five of us would rank getting enough sleep as the most important daily priority. Spending time with the family came in second, with work third. Watching TV and cleaning came in above exercising and having sex.

The survey also revealed that 45% of us regularly feel stressed out at work, while 32% of adults with children under the age of 18 said they prioritise work over spending time together.

Because we are so pushed for time, 63% of Brits said they would outsource certain tasks to free up time. We are most likely to pay someone else to clean the house or do DIY when we’re too busy.

It’s a little depressing that so many of us can’t make time for ourselves in our hectic, modern lives. What’s the solution? According to Tasker at Taskrabbit and life coach Ollie Neveu, it’s all about taking time out for oneself.

“We need to make room in our daily lives to focus on the things that are important to us,” she explained, “whether that’s going to yoga, dinner with friends/family, an extra hour to take the dog out, or an opportunity to learn something new like a language.”

She continued: “For many in Britain that doesn’t seem like a viable option and as a result personal lives are being pushed for work and chores.”
