We can’t ignore it any more as it becomes more apparent that the Power Nap actually does work!
A study by the University of Düsseldorf has shown that even very short naps enhance memory processing, while a Nasa study, looking at their effects on pilots on long flights, reported: “Naps can maintain or improve subsequent performance, physiological and subjective alertness, and mood.”
Naps are of critical importance to pilots flying long-haul – they fit one in while the co-pilot takes over. They are a significant performance enhancer for athletes, too, and they can have the same benefits for anyone. A apparently a 30-minute nap is the most practical.
The other odd thing is the link with drinking coffee beforehand. Espresso is a good, quick fix – so that it takes effect towards the end of your nap. Don’t drink it too slowly though as you might find it’s already taking effect, and be aware of the amount of caffeine you have already had that day.
When Man Utd were under the watch of Alex Ferguson he actively encouraged this to get the best out of the team. Now theres proof if ever there was.
We can nap literally anywhere but the best way is to find a somewhere comfortable and quiet. Lie back, close your eyes and let yourself drift off. This will take some practice for some of us while others can nod off in the blink of an eye.
The main thing is taking time out from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, electronics and pressures and unwinding for a brief period without interruption.
it works from my mom and she’s not looking bad at 76 years of age!
